Welcome to 2019

Hello Everybody and welcome to Room 5's blog. Here you will find details of what we are doing in our class. On Tuesday we had Stoke Nayland Cricket come to our school and provide each class in Maunga and Moana some coaching. We had a lot of fun and look forward to next week's session.

Get Curious!

This term our theme is: Get Curious!

Whakaoho i te warua pakiki o te tamaiti

(Awaken the curiosity of the child)
As a class we have been looking at how we can make catapults.  Each group has made 4 different catapults and used them to shoot marshmallows. We measured how far the marshmallow travelled and reviewed the catapults. We also rated them as best looking, best shooting and personal favourites. Here are some of us at work:

This is some of the great work done by Skye and Jessie:

Mask Parade

We are all very happy with the masks we made for the parade. Weird and wonderful creatures of the air was our theme for our class.

St John's First Aid

Today Shayne came to share with us the DRS ABC. This will help us respond when there is an emergency. We also got to practice putting someone in the recovery position and practise bandaging a patient. Shayne gave us a scenario that could happen on camp and we brainstormed what we could do if someone got hypothermia.

Volleyball

We have been very fortunate to have volleyball lessons and develop new skills as a class. Most of us enjoyed it thoroughly.

Trying out Tennis

27 August 2018

Today we got the opportunity to give the game of tennis a go. We've got some budding stars. Watch out Wimbledon here comes the stars of Room 5.

Netball Visit

On Wednesday the Southern Steele Netball team came to visit our school. They gave our netball girls some tips. A school wide competition was held to guess the right number of balloons in the car. Corban-James had the nearest guess and won a goodie bag with a hoodie, ball, pen and other things in it. Lucky boy!
